Why in the world are we home-schooling?

Now that we have officially made the decision to home-school I figured that everyone would want to know what we were doing. Okay, not everyone, but at least the skeptics. The ones who think we're crazy for not sending our kids to public school; For not giving them a 20 minute lunch and 20 minute recess; For not forcing standardized testing on them; For not exposing them to things that they don't need to know at 5, 6, or 7 or even 12.  And yes I've heard the argument that we went to public school - but public school now and public school 20 years ago are completely different. And if our parents knew some of the things that happened in public school 20 years ago they would be shocked. This is not to say that the girls will never attend public or private school. Maybe after a year of homeschooling we'll change our minds, maybe our jobs will no longer allow us to do so. But for now we're going to do all that we can to make Christ the center of our education, and to make learning fun and relevant.  I don't want to have to combat evolution, drugs, sex, violence and profanity just yet
 What homeschooling means for us
  • More Family Time
  • An education that's geared towards our children
  • Going with the flow
  • Learning together
  • Lot's of outside time
  • Field-trips, field-trips, field-trips
  • A Christian Education (without the cost of Christian school)
What homeschooling does not mean for us
  • We're going to have 20 children (we're good with two.)
  • We're going to do all of our shopping at the thrift store (but I do love the thrift store.)
  • The girls will be strange social outcast
  • The girls will be geniuses and become the next Doogie Howser
  • We're going to brainwash them into only doing the things we like (If you know these girls, you know they have a mind of their own!)
